Corporate Controller
Position Summary
The Corporate Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting, internal financial reporting, and finance systems. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual ensures the timely and accurate delivery of financial information, compliance with ASPE and applicable GAAP standards (Canada & US), and the effective operation of finance systems. The Controller works closely with Finance and cross-functional stakeholders to promote consistency, operational excellence, and informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and full compliance with ASPE and US GAAP.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures across accounting and financial reporting functions.
- Oversee the preparation of internal consolidated financial statements and financial reporting package for executive leadership, lenders, and holding company, including conversion of ASPE accounting balances to IFRS reporting.
- Manage the Finance Operations team including Accounts Payable, Billing & Inventory Costing, Cash Receipts, and General Ledger.
- Act as a support to accounts receivable.
- Manage all treasury functions and relationship with bankers.
- Lead the annual audit process and collaborate with internal and external auditors.
- Lead the Finance team in prioritizing and implementing system enhancements in alignment with Finance Leadership and IT, ensuring that ERP and other tools are optimized and up to date.
- Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity in accounting treatments and policies across departments and geographies.
- Foster a high-performing, engaged, and collaborative finance team through effective leadership, coaching, and development.
Requirements
- CPA designation with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/controllership roles, ideally within distribution, manufacturing, or similar industries.
- Proven experience and strong understanding of inventory costing principles.
- Expertise in IFRS, as well as Canadian and US GAAP, with a proven ability to interpret and apply standards accurately.
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing finance teams.
- Experience managing or working with ERP and financial systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
